Notes:
Not too much weird stuff of note happened this year. About the craziest thing that happened is that one player accidentally forgot to enter their titan in a battle.
Attendance was very close to the other two years I ran this event. However this year the number of people bowing out of the semifinals was lower and I felt the semifinals had a stronger field than the previous two years. The turnout for Wednesday night was a lot better this year than in previous years. Even though the total Avaloncon attendance was down a bit, it appeared that significantly more people were arriving in time to do stuff Wednesday night.
There were a couple of glitches this year. For the second time in three years someone overslept and was replaced for the semifinals. Next year I will be calling people (who give me their room numbers) who aren't there approximately 15 minutes ahead of time. The other glitch was that it takes too long to compute players' rankings. Next year I will arrange to have a laptop along so that I can easily provide people with up to date and accurrate ranking information.
Another problem was that occasionally trying to get people into games when they didn't want to stick around very long for other people to become available to play proved to be a pain. This is sort of an inherent problem with my continuous play format and I don't think there is much I can do to fix it.
There were also a couple of minor glitches in the semifinal game seedings because of couple of players rankings were miscalculated. All of the right players were in, but a couple played in different games than they should have.
On a related note it is clear that my current tie breaker scheme could have had to resort to the die roll tie breaker if there had been a mutual in the final game. It could have been easily needed to break a tie to see who got into the semifinals as well. Next year I will be adding more tie breakers. I will also be getting rid of the die roll tie breaker (at least as a seperate roll).
I think there were too many 5 player heat round games. Next year I will only start 5 or 6 player games very late at night, when there is virtually no chance to start another game up before the next morning.
