51 players participated in 47 preliminary round matches.
This year I was remiss in not submitting a write up to the BPA for inclusion in the Multi-player Titan Yearbook entry. I made a couple of notes which much later, I am trying to expand on.
Ed Rothenheber won the event. Ed has been in the semifinals a number of years and has previously won the two player event.
Dan Strock didn't play in as many games as last year, but did make it to the semifinals, where he was eliminated by a roll off after a mutual between himself and Rich Atwater. Still, rolling off mutuals seemed to be preferred to having a preset tie breaker based on seeding.
The average number of games per participant was up this year, resulting in needing a better record than usual to get into the semifinals. David Finberg was the only player to get into the semifinals with only one heat win.
The random seeding also seemed to work well. The purpose of random seeding was to not try to encourage players who were guarenteed to be in the semifinals to either play or not play games in order to influence who their opponents would be in their semifinal game.
There didn't seem to be any problem letting people play games as an eliminator.
In the oops department, Steve Shambeda got his initial stacks mixed up and was recruiting without showing or looking at the stacks and then had to turn in several turns worth of recruits when the mistake was discovered.
